Located a mere 4 mi (6 km) west of Colorado Springs, the city of Manitou Springs is situated between two of the area's most popular attractions�the famous 14,110 ft (4304 m) tall Pikes Peak Mountain and the Garden of the Gods park, a recreational haven known for its bright red rocks. Manitou Springs boasts a wide range of activities and attractions that draw visitors year-round. The Cave of the Winds is a popular natural attraction where the adventurous can embark on a guided tour into the depths of this famous cave. The Pikes Peak Cog Railway offers a sightseeing ride up to the top of Pikes Peak Mountain, making it the highest railroad trip in the United States. History enthusiasts enjoy visiting the Manitou Cliff Dwellings, a historic site that features authentic American Indian ruins from 1100 to 1300 A.D., as well as two museums and traditional dance performances.
