Located a mere 4 mi (6 km) west of Colorado Springs, the city of Manitou Springs is situated between two of the area's most popular attractions—the famous 14,110 ft (4304 m) tall Pikes Peak Mountain and the Garden of the Gods park, a recreational haven known for its bright red rocks. Manitou Springs boasts a wide range of activities and attractions that draw visitors year-round. The Cave of the Winds is a popular natural attraction where the adventurous can embark on a guided tour into the depths of this famous cave. The Pikes Peak Cog Railway offers a sightseeing ride up to the top of Pikes Peak Mountain, making it the highest railroad trip in the United States. History enthusiasts enjoy visiting the Manitou Cliff Dwellings, a historic site that features authentic American Indian ruins from 1100 to 1300 A.D., as well as two museums and traditional dance performances.
